***Students present and absent for class on Week 6 (Feb 14th), please check out the Waves Page to the left for supplemental information about topics in this week's reading.

Welcome to the website for CTD's Integrated Science - Honors Physics Class. In addition to finding assignments from each week, we will post our final projects on this site. The course syllabus and weekly packets are in the attachment section of this webpage (scroll to the bottom to find attachments.) Any questions, please contact me at jdepies@maine207.org. Please, put "CTD" in the subject of any e-mail, so it is less likely to be confused for spam.

In the event of severe weather, please check www.emergencyclosingcenter.com to check the status of classes at CTD.

Below is a quick summary of each week:

Week 1
We learned each others names. We measured our velocity during several races in the hall. We learned about calculating velocity and acceleration.

For homework: Finish Week 1 packet up to Factor-Labeling Assignment.

Week 2
We learned about Factor-Labeling Method (Dimensional Analysis) to convert units. We finished Week 1 packet (except the last side of the last page). In the Week 2 Packet, we did "It's All Downhill from Here!", the first two pages of notes labeled "Introduction to Acceleration." Students took their first weekly quiz.

For homework: Complete both sides of "Tracking Speed" and Kinematics Equations was an optional challenge assignment for students craving more difficulty. Also read Ch 2 in their textbooks and answer review questions 11-17 at the end of chapter 2.

Week 3
We finished the Acceleration Notes and learned to apply d=1/2at^2 and t = sqrt (2d/a) on page 5 in Week 2 packet. The students did the Reaction Time Lab and Jump Around Lab in class (Week 2 packet). Mr. D several demonstrations of Newton's Laws and students took some notes.

For homework: Open your e-mail and sign up for our wiki at wetpaint. Follow directions in the e-mail and add a page with your name as the title. Read Chapters 4,5, and 6. Take notes about the reading on your new wiki page. If you were absent, send Mr. Depies an e-mail to jdepies@maine207.org. I will send you an invitation to join our group and you can start taking your notes.

Here are videos that explains Newton's 3 Laws of Motion!

A video on Teacher Tube that explains Newton's Laws.

Week 4
We finished Pg 2-4 in Week 3 packet in class. We watched a ESPN Sportsfigures about how Newton's Law applies to Football. We filled in "Notes for the MU That You Do" in week 4 packet and we did the Shoe Lab in Week 4 packet. Next week's quiz will be on Newton's Laws and Friction, including MU. No quiz this week.

For homework: Create two pages under your page like we demonstrated with Onah's page. Name one of the Pages __________'s Newton's Laws Notes and the other ________'s Final Project (the ______ should be filled with your name. On the final Project Page, list at least 3 topics that you would like to use for your final project. In the Week 3 packet, you should complete pages 5-11 and 13. Feel free to e-mail me with any questions. My e-mail address is at the top of the page.

Week 5
We turned in our homework from week 4. We watched ESPN Boarding School video on Work, Power, Kinetic Energy, and Gravitational Potential energy (Pg 1 in the packet) We took notes on Work and Power (pg 2 in the packet). Then, we did the Work and Power Lab (Pg 3+4). The students took the quiz on Newton's Laws. We took notes on Pg 6&7. For homework: 1. Do page Energy Calculations on Page 8+9 2. Read the Cartoon Guide reading at the end of the downloadable week 5 packet. (at the bottom of the home page in the attachment section) 3. Chapter 8 in our textbook Conceptual Physics and answer Review Questions 10-15 & 18 on Pg 119 & 120. 4. Follow the instructions on the sheet "Final Project Expectations." (Also, downloadable in the attachment section on this page)

Week 6 - Waves
We watched Making Waves video and completed notes. We worked in the Computer lab to add a video and picture to our Final Project page and picked our topic. We took the Energy Quiz. We did the Slinky Lab.

For Homework:
Read Chapter 25 (Pg 372-387) & Do Review Questions 1,2,6-8,10,11,16,17,19,20 (on Pg 387+388)

Do both Conceptual Development Worksheets in Packet (both 2-sided pages)
Work on Final Project.
***Additional Work to watch the videos and applets in the "Waves Page" to the left hand side.

Week 7 - Electricity
We will be studying static electricity and electric current. We did a static electriticy lab (Shocking Lab in the Week 7 packet). We took notes on page 1 in the packet. We did a laboratory activity with electric current. The packet is in the attachment section below.

For Homework:
Read Chapter 32.1 - 32.7 and do Review Questions 4-10, 12, 17-23 (Pg 515+516)
